A Will; a Living Will; and sometimes a Power Of Attorney are necessities, not luxuries.
A recent survey on estate planning, conducted by Harris Interactive for Martindale-Hubbell lawyers.com, confirmed that more than half of all adult Americans do not have a will — almost every adult who dies possesses some form of property, but without a will, the state will decide how those assets are distributed; which may not reflect the individual’s actual desires.
Only two in five adults have living wills (also known as medical directives or power of attorney for healthcare). Living wills state an individual’s directions for receiving life-sustaining medical intervention in the event of grave illness or injury; and delegate authority to another to make medical decisions for that individual, if he or she is incapacitated.
Every adult, no matter how wealthy or poor, should seriously consider having a Will; a Living Will ; and sometimes a Power Of Attorney — without these documents, life and death can become very complicated.
